About

Hi, I’m Beth Thompson, pottery crafter extraordinaire at Red Sunset Ceramics.

“Functionally fun” is how I describe my pottery.

I strive to create pieces that make you feel happy but also can be used in a variety of ways. I love adding a splash of color here and a marbling of color there to produce unique items just for you. It is my goal for one of my mugs to brighten up your morning tea or for my bowls to give personality to your lunchtime salad.

My love for pottery first started in high school. I was lucky enough to take several classes through the Haystack Mountain School of Arts, in Deer Isle Maine. I enjoyed it so much that I vowed to one day own my own wheel and kiln. About 10 years after those classes I finally made that dream a reality! With the support of my wonderful husband (and a used kiln and wheel courtesy of eBay) I was able to start this business.

Red Sunset Ceramics was conceived in 2016 in Maine. The name "Red Sunset Ceramics" comes from the street I grew up on, Sunset Crossroad. A lot of my creativity stems from the supportive environment in the life I had growing up. Now that past lives on through the business name, regardless of what street I reside on.

Everything is made in my home studio where I have complete control over the creative process. I add new products to my shop periodically and also accept custom orders.

Thank you for visiting my site; I hope you find something functionally fun to brighten your day!
